Definition and Types

Panic or Anxiety Attacks are a sudden defined period of extreme anxiety or terror. Not all panic attacks are the same. The classic panic attack lasts for about 30 minutes. However, the symptoms can be experienced in seconds or they can come in waves over a period of hours.

There are 3 different types of panic attacks :

  1. Panic attack can be spontaneous - arising out of the blue.  This is also called uncued panic attack.
  2. It can also be associated with specific  situations or places such as driving or shopping malls. This is also called situational predisposed panic attack.
  3. Some people can also experience panic attack with types of situations or places such as panic attack in crowded places. This is also referred to as cued panic attack.
